Sleep?? Who needs sleep??

Jackson will be 4 weeks old on Thursday!! I can't believe it. He is the best ever!! Travis and I are having so much fun with him. At the same time we are having fun we are also somewhat sleep deprived--Travis seems to need way more sleep than I do. There have been a few occasions that I will need help at night. I gently tap Travis and ask him for help. On one occasion, after asking for his help, Travis unplugged his cell phone and handed it to me and rolled over and went back to sleep--as to say call someone else to help!! On the other occasion, I asked Travis to lay Jackson back in his bed. Travis got out of bed without Jackson, pretended to hold a baby, walked to his crib, and laid down his fake baby. Then, I think he began to wake up, he looked at me and said, "I thought I had already had him in my hands" I could not stop laughing while I was still holding Jackson. He is so wonderful that it makes the little sleep we go worth it!!

Thanksgiving 2008

Thanksgiving was awesome!! We had it here in Lubbock since Jackson was only 1 week old at that time. My family came down and we had Thanksgiving at the Funk house. I told Travis "who knew that our kitchen could cook so much food--and that he shouldn't expect that all the time" Jackson was held most of the day due to how cute he is and no one seemed to want to put him down. I think the turkey made him sleepy!! Jackson and I are still trying to figure out a rotuine but we are having tons of fun while learning together. He is now at 8lbs. 2oz. and 21in. long. He is out growing his clothes length wise!! I think he will be tall like his daddy!! We had pictures taken of him by Denae Hutson. She did an amazing job. You can see them on her blog site. It is over on the side of ours. We can't wait for Christmas!! We will be going to Amarillo and can't wait to show him off to good ol' A town!!

Jackson has arrived

As I write this Jackson is now 2 days old and it has been an amazing couple of days. It started off with a 7:00AM check in time to the hospital and was a "fun filled" day that ended with Jackson arriving at 5:03PM. The labor went well but was not always pleasant. Melissa had 3 failed regular epidurals (which was very painful to Mel) and ended with a successful caudal epidural. If you are not familiar with a caudal epidural you are not alone because this was only the 2nd time that our doctor had every attempted the procedure! Due to the location of the caudal epidural Mel felt some pretty good pain during the contractions, but felt nothing during the actual birth. Jackson needed some assistance so our doctor used the "Vacuum". With that Jackson had a pretty good conehead for a little while. As stated Jackson arrived at 5:03PM and weighted 7 lbs 3 oz and was 19 1/2 inches long. He has a head full of hair and will probably have a full beard like his daddy by the end of the week..........We headed home from the hospital this afternoon and things are going great. As we left the hospital I did try and bribe a few of the nurses to see if they could come home with us but I was unsuccessful....
God has blessed us with an amazing son and we thank him for that. Our prayer is that we look to Him for continued guidance and wisdom during this journey.

Jackson Andrew

Jackson Andrew Funk is in full affect and should arrive in about 6 1/2 weeks. We must admit that we are very excited, but also scared. Movie quote: "I think i'm 98% excited 2% scared; or maybe i'm 98% scared 2% excited"............(Owen Wilson Armageddon). Melissa would like to state a community service announcement saying that Travis is writing this blog and that the quote above is stupid........

We had our first baby shower today in Amarillo and really came out like bandits! The theme of this baby shower was to bring your favorite baby book with your gift and we got some great ones!! The hostest gift was our "stroller travel system". I must admit that these "travel systems" are fantastic, but can be complicated at times. My father in law (who I must state is a mechancial engineer) and I spent about an hour to figure out all the ins and outs of the system.

Melissa and I start "parenting class" this next Tuesday to stay tuned for an update on that!!!

God Bless,

Travis, Melissa, and Jackson
